How a WhatsApp click-to-chat link works
A click-to-chat link is a normal web address that opens a WhatsApp chat with a given number. The format is https://wa.me/<number>, where the number is written in full international format: country code first, digits only, no plus sign, no spaces and no leading zeros. Add ?text= followed by URL-encoded text to pre-fill the first message. WhatsApp documents this format for both the WhatsApp Business app and the Business Platform.
The generator above cleans the number for you (it strips spaces, plus signs, dashes and a leading 00), encodes your message correctly and also shows the longer api.whatsapp.com/send?phone= form, which behaves the same way.

Do I need the WhatsApp Business API for this? No. The link works with a normal number on the WhatsApp Business app or personal WhatsApp. The API matters when you need several agents, automation or message templates at scale.
Is the generator free? Yes. It runs entirely in your browser; the number and message are not sent anywhere or stored.
Can I add a message in another language or with emojis? Yes. The text is URL-encoded, so any characters work.
Does the person who clicks have to save my number? No. The chat opens directly. They need WhatsApp installed, or WhatsApp Web on a computer.
What about consent? Someone who messages you first has started the conversation. Sending marketing messages later needs their opt-in, which depends on your country and setup. This is not legal advice.
