How WhatsApp Business API messages are priced
Since 1 July 2025 Meta charges per delivered template message instead of per 24-hour conversation. Template messages fall into three categories: marketing, utility and authentication. Free-form replies inside the 24-hour customer service window are service messages. From 1 October 2026 only the first 1,000 service messages per number per month are free; beyond that they are billed. The price per message depends on the category and on the country of the recipient, and Meta updates its rate card regularly.
This is why the calculator has no built-in prices: copy the current rate for your destination country and category from Meta's pricing page and enter it. Always check the date on Meta's page.
What is not in the estimate
- Your provider's fee. Most people reach the API through a business solution provider or software platform, which charges its own subscription. Add it in the optional field.
- Taxes such as VAT.
- Click-to-WhatsApp ad windows. Conversations that start from an ad can have a free entry window; check Meta's current rules and adjust your service volume.
- Volume tiers and exchange rates. Meta publishes rates in several currencies and may apply discounts.
Ways to keep the bill down
- Answer within the 24-hour window with free-form service messages instead of sending a new template.
- Use marketing templates only for consented contacts who benefit from them; they are the most expensive category in most markets.
- Resolve repeat questions with automated answers from your own content, so fewer messages need a person.
- Review the rate card every quarter; prices change.
